An introductory tour of Sixent Enterprise 2. A gallery of screenshots...

This slide deck was presented to members of the American Marketing Association in August 2008. It provides a good introduction to what should be considered when planning your corporate social network.

The total value of a network often grows as its membership expands. That's the rationale for why user adoption is so fundamentally important. Who wants to join a network with only a few members and no vibrancy? It's like stepping into a really lame party...we'd all rather join the noisy one down the street. Your corporate social network needs to grow. It's inevitable that, over time, people will leave. So, to keep growing the value it's important to continue growing the user population. Seek new ways...

Adoption doesn't just happen because you have lots of cool content on your social network or online community. It's part of a process that is constantly reinforced by how you use the network. If you can engage your users, listen to what they are saying, then act on it and - most importantly - show them through the community what you have done (and what they think), a customer is much more likely to want to return because they are being valued. You've built a relationship through the social network or...

Barriers to adoption of your social network exist at both an individual and organizational level. You should examine which apply to your organization as part of the process to create an Adoption Plan. Be aware that some are contradictory. For example, being able to add visible branding is often essential for an Enterprise to adopt a social network as its own, but too much overt branding can be a negative for customers seeking unbiased opinions and relationships with peers.
